Lake Fork is truly a trophy bass lake, which is
nestled in northeast Texas. It is host to the state record bass, weighing 18.18 lbs,
caught on January 24, 1993 in 42 feet of water. Lake Fork is also home to 36 of the top 50
bass in Texas weighing over 15 lbs! It is 27,000 surface acres, located between the towns
of Emory, Alba, and Yantis, and is only an 1 1/2 – 2 hours drive from Dallas/Fort Worth,
and a 45 minute drive from Tyler. Lake Fork has an abundance of grass, timber, and other
bass holding habitat, with a good forage base of shad and crawfish. The Texas Parks and
Wildlife originally stocked Lake Fork with mostly pure Florida Strain bass, and today they
continue to stock the lake to insure a trophy bass lake for years to come. As well, a slot
measurement and limit was instituted to protect the larger bass. A daily limit of 5 bass
can be kept, with only one measuring over 24 inches, and all bass between 16 inches and
24
inches must be returned to Lake Fork. Catch and Release has become synonymous with this
prized trophy lake, and as a result has produced quality bass since it’s inception.

I am a licensed fishing guide on Lake Fork, and have guided 12 years. My
largest bass to date is 13.02 lbs., and many 10+ lb bass have been caught by my
clients. My charge for a one day trip on Lake Fork is $275.00 for one or
two people. I do offer half day, and hourly rates as well. Bass
fishing and crappie fishing trips are available. I also coordinate duck
hunts, catfishing trips, wild hog hunts, deer hunts, golf trips, and lodging.
I do advise to book guides and motels early during the fall and spring, as
these are very busy times on Lake Fork and reservations fill quickly.

trip exploring Democracy in America. C-SPAN will retrace the steps of Alexis
de Tocqueville, author of Democracy in America, who traveled
throughout the U.S. in 1831 with his friend, Gustave de Beaumont. Starting
in Newport, RI, the bus will wind its way along the eastern half of the
U.S. in search of what democracy means today. We’ll stop in
communities Tocqueville visited and discuss the
same issues he raised — issues such as religion and politics, the impact
and power of the press and the changing role of government.

Semana Santa is Mexico’s second most important holiday season of the year, behind only Christmas, and runs from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. In addition to attending Mass on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, many Mexicans will also take advantage of the holiday to go on vacation. If you’re planning to visit Mexico during Semana Santa, make sure you checked on availability in advance.
Semana Santa, or Holy Week, celebrates the Christian holiday of Easter. Mexico is nearly 90 percent Catholic, so this religious holiday takes on a special meaning that the entire community shares and participates in.
All of Mexico celebrates Semana Santa, but certain cities and villages are better known for celebrating the holiday, and often provide reenactments of the events leading up to Christ’s crucifixion on the cross. The best known cities are Ixtapalapa (in Mexico City), Patzcuaro, San Cristobal de las Casas (Chiapas), and Taxco. Smaller and silent torch lit processions, Procession del Silencio, also take place in Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosi.
Each community celebrates the holiday with it’s own regional flavor, however, popular with the whole country is the breaking of cascarones, colored egg shells filled with confetti, over friends and family. Churches will be filled with those attending Mass on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, and families will take this opportunity to be together.
The most moving event of Semana Santa is the reenactment of the Passion of Christ, or the Passion Play. The event’s in the mentioned cities are sponsored by religious or community groups, and can include large processions of penitents, sometimes on their knees, a portrayal of the last supper and the crucifixion itself.
In many cities, important religious images from the church will be displayed, traditional altars are decorated at home and in the streets, and flower decorations and palm crosses will be found everywhere. The central colonial cities seem to celebrate this holiday with the most reverence and tradition, and if you wish to see the beauty of traditional Mexico, Semana Santa would be well worth seeing for yourself.

My Story:
I was bornon August 22, 2003. I
came from a breeder in the Houston, Texas area. My
birth-mom was about 70 lbs. and my birth-dad was about 65
lbs. My first Dad took me home and called me Tora; but
after only one week, he had to go overseas. He was so
sad. He asked his sister, (Miss Tatiana) to take care of
me and find me a new home. I really liked staying with
my foster mom because I got to play with the cats, and the
dogs, and the kids too! Miss Tatiana put me in an ad on
Petfinder.com under the name “Haley” and that is how
my new family found me. My new Mommy and Daddy (Patrick
and Alex Taylor) were so excited when they found out
that I had not been adopted yet and came to get me the very
next day, January 11th of 2004. I now live in Plano,
Texas which is just to the north of Dallas.

My new Home:
When I got to my new home, I was really scared
because I didn’t know what to expect. I was very shy and
only wanted to stay in my crate. That was a hard first
week. I had to start a new house training program, deal
with these new people (that would not leave me alone), meet a
new sister named Squirrel, change my food, and I even lost a
baby tooth. Now I just love it here. I have
a great back yard to play in. I have my very own park at
the end of my street. My best friend, Black Kitty, lives
right next door and comes to visit everyday. I have
three cousins that are Border Collies and do this Flyball
thing. (Bandit, my youngest cousin is a nut-case.)
I even think that Mommy and Daddy are wanting to get me a
brother or sister to play with. Most of all though, I
really love my Mommy and Daddy, and Squirrel.

mother, and her father were sitting on a blue couch in the family living room,
watching a play on New York’s Channel Thirteen, the educational television. The
play was the extraordinary The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon
Marigolds; about a loving and horrible mother and her daughters,
particularly one who is trying to do the science project mentioned in the title.
“I remember Charlotte moving from leaning back into the couch to sitting up
straight, almost rigid, transfixed — pointing like a spaniel.”
